Review
Return to Mysterious Island is an adventure game developed by Kheops Studio and distributed by Microïds. The main character of this adventure, Mina, suffers a helicopter crash and then she realizes that she's trapped on a mysterious land, with very few resources. She only has a mobile phone with low battery and she's very hungry, so her first objective (as is yours) is to find some food to gain strength, and then try to find a way out of the mysterious beach. She will also have to find some place to start a fire, and of course stones and wood to make a fire and then cook something to eat (you will find turtle eggs, crabs and other stuff).
She soon realizes that a figure in the shadows actually makes things easier, taking her out of trouble several times. Mina soon identifies him as the ghost of Captain Nemo, whose body was trapped in his mythical ship, the Nautilus, which is supposed to be sunk in the depths under the edge of the island. Mina must find the Nautilus, retrieve Nemo's body and give it a proper burial to free his tortured soul.
You will find clues on your way, and you will see that your mouse pointer changes when passing over some item of interest. Most of the puzzles have multiple solutions. The fire can be kindled with dried amadou (highly inflammable fungus), palm branches and leaves and a piece of flint stone, or a piece of wood and a metal plaque and so on.
Visuals and sound.
You will find that the 360º panoramic views are very beautiful. They are very detailed and thoroughly built. The sound effects give a fine finishing touch to the whole atmosphere: the nice sounds of waves, for instance, and the soundtrack as a whole.
To sum up, this game is inspired by the works of Jules Verne, is very good and you will enjoy it as much as I did. |
